Judging:

League of Romance Writers is pleased to see many previous category winners and finalists move forward in their writing careers to become published authors.

The Emily Contest provides the opportunity for unbiased feedback by Published Authors, RWA-PRO,  and other Experienced Judges.

The Emily also provides the chance for finalists to have their work read by publishing house editors and literary agents.  FINAL JUDGES AND CATEGORIES

Under no circumstances should comments given by a judge be used for publicity purposes without the express consent of the judge.

All judging is blind. Entrants’ names are only known by the category coordinator.

Scoring:

Please review the SCORE SHEET for more insight into how your entry will be judged.

During the first round, each entry will be scored by three judges.

Each entry will be scored out of a possible 100 total points. The lowest score will be dropped. The two remaining scores will be added together for the First Round Combined Score.

The three highest First Round Combined Score entries in each category will advance to the Final Round.

Finalists and Non-Finalists will be notified on or around December 15th. First Round score sheets and manuscripts will be returned at this time.

Final Round Judges will consist of one editor and one agent per category.

Final Round Judges will rank each finalist from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest score. In the event of a tie, the previous round scores of the tied entries will be used to break the tie.
